Emissions calculator
How much would you save by going emission-free?
Tell us about your deliveries and we'll show the CO₂, nitrogen oxides and fine particles a diesel van produces for them, what XeroE's fleet produces instead, and the health cost avoided. Takes a minute.
What you'll see
A yearly comparison of a diesel van against XeroE's bicycles, cargo bikes and electric vans for your parcels: CO₂, NOx and PM2.5, the health cost of that pollution using the UK Government's damage costs, and what the savings mean in everyday terms.
Built on published figures
Emission factors from the UK Government's 2024 conversion factors and Defra's 2025 damage costs. Our original calculator was developed with Imperial College London; this version is updated to the latest published factors. See the method.

Your yearly emissions report
Switching parcels a year to XeroE saves
| Per year | CO₂e | NOx | PM2.5 | Health cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Traditional delivery | ||||
| XeroE delivery | ||||
| Saving |
Tailpipe emissions for the distance your parcels travel. Health cost uses Defra's central damage costs per tonne of NOx and PM2.5 (2025 prices).
Nice numbers. What do they mean?
Your CO₂ saving is the same as…
homes’ energy use for a year
smartphones charged
acres of forest absorbing CO₂ for a year
kg of coal not burnt
litres of petrol not burnt
tree seedlings grown for ten years

Impact reports for partners
Once you're delivering with us, every partner gets the same figures for their real parcels, delivery by delivery, ready for CSR and ESG reporting.
Method and sourcesHow we calculate
Distance. Parcels per year × average distance per delivery. By postcode we look up both postcodes (postcodes.io) and multiply the straight-line distance by 1.3 for road routing.
Traditional delivery. Class III diesel van (1.74 to 3.5 t), the typical delivery van: 0.27365 kg CO₂e, 0.5 g NOx and 0.03 g PM2.5 per kilometre (exhaust plus brake and tyre wear).
XeroE delivery. Parcels up to 25 kg and 100 litres go by bicycle or cargo bike (zero tailpipe emissions, no brake or tyre figure counted). Larger parcels go by electric van: zero CO₂ and NOx at the tailpipe, 0.012 g PM2.5 per km from brake and tyre wear.
Health cost. Defra's central damage costs: £10,193 per tonne of NOx and £114,411 per tonne of PM2.5 (2025 prices). These cover health and wider societal impacts and are the figures used in UK Government appraisal.
Everyday equivalents. US EPA greenhouse gas equivalencies (home energy use, smartphones, forest, coal, tree seedlings) and the UK petrol factor of 2.08 kg CO₂e per litre.
- UK Government GHG conversion factors 2024 (DESNZ): class III diesel van 0.27365 kg CO2e per km
- Defra air quality damage costs, 2025 update (central values, 2025 prices): NOx £10,193 per tonne, PM2.5 £114,411 per tonne
- Diesel van NOx 0.5 g/km and PM2.5 0.03 g/km (exhaust plus brake and tyre wear): XeroE working assumptions for a Euro 6 diesel van in urban driving, in line with real-driving emissions studies
- Everyday equivalents: US EPA greenhouse gas equivalencies calculator; petrol 2.08 kg CO2e per litre from the UK conversion factors
Figures are estimates for planning and reporting conversations. Partner impact reports use the actual vehicles and routes of each delivery. Factors version 2026-11-01.
